US warplane crashes in South Korea

A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet has crashed in South Korea. CNN reported that the incident happened on Saturday morning near a US base during training. The US Air Force base in South Korea said the plane crashed in farmland near Osan Air Base.

The pilot of the plane was rescued and treated at a local hospital. The US Army claimed that no civilians were injured in the incident.

The governor of South Korea’s Gyeonggi province, Kim Dong-eun, said in a Twitter message that members of the local fire service have been sent to the scene. They are working there.

The pilot flew the plane as part of routine training, but the US has not yet confirmed the cause of the crash. The country said it is investigating the matter.

Osan Air Base is the closest base to North Korea. It is 64 km away from the North Korean border.
